Naming of Facilities
The Board of Education shall name schools consistent with the following criteria:
- Geographic area or historical or geographical significance.
2. A deceased individual of historical significance, particularly if their contribution is in a field which the Board of Education wishes to recognize, such as fine arts, science, literature, etc. or contributions of state, national or world wide significance.
The naming of school facilities after living persons shall be avoided.
The naming of buildings, parts of buildings, athletic fields, or other structures may be done in recognition of the contributions of students, staff members or community members at the discretion of the site principal in consultation with students, staff, and parents, with the express approval of the Superintendent and/or designee.
The renaming of existing schools or major facilities shall occur only under extraordinary circumstances.
The Board encourages site and community participation in the process of selecting names. This may be accomplished in any manner designated by the Board of Education at the time the facility is to be named.
