Lodi USD recognizes the importance of securing and protecting the personal information of our students. We collect personal information regarding our students, including name, address, parent contact information, grades, attendance, medical or allergy information, and whether or not they are eligible for a program (special education [SpEd], 504, or English Learner [EL]). We take our responsibility to safeguard this information seriously.
January 23, 2020 Incident
Beginning on January 23, 2020, we learned that there was unauthorized access to the electronic grade books of three staff members. As soon as we learned of the incidents, we took immediate steps to secure the information and we initiated an internal investigation to determine what happened, who was impacted, and what information was affected.
We determined that data in one of the grade books included student information, including name, address, parent contact information, grades, attendance, medical or allergy information, and whether or not they are eligible for a program (special education [SpEd], 504, or English Learner [EL]). Although we have no evidence that the information was misused, we encourage our parents to always be vigilant against future identity fraud.
The District sent written notification to the parents/guardians of students whose medical information had been accessed. We sent emails and text messages to the parents/guardians of students whose other information (non-medical information) had been accessed. For those who were not impacted by this event, we wanted to share that this incident occurred and our next steps. To help prevent a similar incident in the future, we are enhancing our existing safety protocols and re-educating our staff for awareness of these types of incidents.
